| Most people are nervous before an interview. They are so busy thinking about the possible position or thinking about things to say that they forget the little things. Here is a pre-interview checklist to help you get everything in order.
- Bring a pen and a pad of paper. This is helpful if you talking about the terms of your employment or if you are being given dates, names or numbers.
- Bring a copy of your resume. The interviewer may forget or misplace your resume if you have one to provide it shows that you are prepared.
- References, if they asked you to bring them then make sure you have them with you. Even if they haven't asked yet, bring your references.
- Depending on the type of position you are interviewing for it may be appropriate to bring a portfolio of your work with you. This can provide some real examples of your work and allows you to detail some of your past experiences. Prepare your portfolio to match your interview, bring relevant work and be prepared to talk about them.
- Do some research, go ahead and Google the company, check out the company website. By knowing something about the company you will have something to talk about during the interview and it shows that you are interested in the position.
- Plan out your route to the interview, if you haven't been to that area before go there a day early and check it out. Figure out how long it will take you to get from your home to the interview so you will know when you need to leave. It is a good idea to leave early just incase there is bad traffic or other delays.
- Finally take care of yourself, eat something, have a shower, brush your teeth, go to the bathroom. Bad breath or a rumbling tummy can be embarrassing. Take some time to get cleaned up and it will help you to relax and avoid possible embarrassment.
Good luck!
